How this site is funded

Affiliate commissions on product links. The retailer pays the commission when a purchase goes through a link here. Your price is the same whether you use the link or buy directly from the retailer.

Affiliate relationships

Product links on this site are sometimes affiliate links. Clicking one and completing a purchase sends a small commission to me from the retailer's margin, at no cost to you. Whether a product carries an affiliate link has no bearing on whether it gets reviewed or what the review says. Products I returned or found not worth the price get reviewed that way, affiliate relationship or not.

Testing approach

Every product gets a minimum of thirty days of real-condition use before I write about it. Real conditions: source water types and temperatures matching what you would actually work with, setup done cold without rereading instructions, treated like gear you have not touched in eight months because that is often the reality.

Weekly observation logs track what changed, what the published spec claims versus what I measured, and what failed under what specific conditions. One filter tested in late 2024 dropped 22% in flow rate over six weeks on collected rainwater. That number appears nowhere in the product's documentation. The review includes both figures, the source water type, and the temperature range the test ran under. That level of detail is the baseline for every review on this site.

All gear is purchased at retail from the same places readers typically buy: Home Depot, Amazon, local hardware stores. If a product is provided without cost for review purposes, the review says so explicitly at the top of the post.

Scope and limits

This site reflects the experience of one person testing water preparedness gear under suburban Houston conditions for short-term disruption scenarios. Results are condition-dependent. Readers in different climates, with different source water profiles, or facing different household situations may see different outcomes. Where my conclusions are specific to my testing conditions, the review says so.
